Eight businesses on International Drive, a high-traffic tourist area, agreed to work together to attract local Orlando-area residents during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Orlando Business Journal.
ICON Park CEO Chris Jaskiewicz told the Orlando Business Journal that this model has proven successful through Church Street Station, a similar entertainment district in Orlando that boomed in the ’70s and ‘80s.
Similar hubs can also be found in other parts of the world, such as the Fremont East Entertainment District in downtown Las Vegas.
Black households make more income in the Washington, D.C., metro area than any other Top 25 metro, Black people tend to be older on the East Coast than the West, and a larger share of Black people receive SNAP benefits in some of Florida’s northern counties than elsewhere in the state.
The median (midpoint) household income for Black Americans in the United States as a whole was about $45,000 in 2019, and census data from previous years shows that Black household income has been growing.
Eastern states tend to have higher median ages for Black people than western states…
The amount of passengers using Gainesville’s Regional Transit System is correlated to when class is in session at University of Florida, which partially explains the lower ridership during the COVID-19 pandemic, lower ridership during school breaks and higher ridership in the fall.
As UF transitioned online and limited in-person courses in 2020, RTS served fewer passengers. Ridership is typically lower in the summer months and into the winter, when UF has fewer classes and fewer students on campus.
In contrast, there are more bus passengers in the fall months, during UF’s semester with the most students taking classes.
It’s apparent in older age groups that men are paid more than women, more men than women are participating in the workforce, and Asian workers are consistently getting paid more than other races and ethnicities, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
The weekly median, or midpoint, earnings for full-time workers is more for men than women, and the difference increases with age. This is because men tend to receive more promotions and raises and receive more flexibility to switch to higher paying companies, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research. Men also make up more of…
The University of Florida has the highest graduation rate, the lowest transfer-out rate and the lowest cost of attendance among public universities in the SEC.
In addition to graduating the highest rate of students, UF also has the smallest rate of students who transfer out of the school compared to other SEC public schools. This means UF retains a larger proportion of its students.
UF also bests the SEC public schools in cost of attendance. Its total attendance cost, which includes tuition, fees, housing and food, for in-state students on any kind of financial aid is the lowest when compared to the other universities, according to the federal data.
Floridians approved a ballot measure last year that will gradually increase the minimum hourly wage to $15 by 2026, giving Gainesville an opportunity unlike other cities to provide a living wage for minimum-wage workers.
President Joe Biden proposed a $15 federal minimum wage in the latest $1.9 trillion COVID-relief bill making its way through Congress. However, the Senate parliamentarian advised against the provision, making it highly unlikely a new minimum wage will be implemented for the country. The federal minimum wage, currently $7.25 an hour, hasn’t increased since 2009.
I have never seen anyone win a large prize at Strike Three.
For a while, I wasn’t quite sure why people played it. The carnival game looks insignificant compared to the other attractions in Krustyland. Turkey legs. Pelicans fighting the humans who bought said turkey legs. Swarms of tourists who seem to have forgotten their brains at home.
I spent my summers working at the “Krustiest Place on Earth,” donned in clown jail chic. There, I often ran Strike Three, a game that turned heads as sock bullets flew out of pressurized air canisters and collided with a pyramid of…
After five weeks of bartering, Gainesville resident Caroline Staniski is one transaction away from her goal of trading a small notebook for a MacBook.
Staniski, a 27-year-old freelance graphic designer, said she was inspired in mid-July to do a smaller, more practical version of a TikTok she saw, in which a woman hoped to trade from a bobby pin to a house. That TikToker was Demi Skipper of the Trade Me Project, which now has more than 4.3 million followers on the video platform.
“Trading has been around for hundreds of years,” Staniski said. “And people should take risks.”
